Of course you do.

So I’ve just returned from the NYC Clockwork Prince release signing. There are a few pictures included in this post, but you can see a few more either on Facebook or Tumblr, depending on your preference. Cassie and Ed Westwick! What more could you ask for, right?

Well, maybe you want a copy of Clockwork Prince because you don’t have one yet. And maybe you want that copy to be signed.

Wish, receive, dear friends. Wish, receive.

You may have seen my posts on Twitter when I read Clockwork Prince back in September: This is, in my opinion, Cassie’s best book to date. Aside from the lovely characterization that we have all come to know and love, this book is subtle as it splinters your heart into pieces. And why wouldn’t I want to inflict that pain on share it with all of you?

It’s nearly 2 AM. I know that a lot of people out there are still reading Clockwork Prince and I have a strict no-spoiler rule about me, so I’m not going to say anything more until tomorrow afternoon (when you can bet your bottom dollar there will be a well-marked, spoiler-filled, angst-ridden post on this very website). But I am going to give y’all the opportunity to get your hands on the copy I had Cassie sign at the event tonight.

So who wants it? It’s as simple as commenting on this post before Tuesday, December 13 at 11:59 PM ET! If you want a second entry, you can post about this giveaway (here’s a short link: http://dft.ba/-cpga ) on Twitter and/or Tumblr and link to said post in your comment. Look at that! Three shots at winning. And it’s very pretty (and shiny!).

Names will be entered into a spreadsheet and the winner will be picked by a random number generator.

Please, please, please make sure you are either registered on MundieSource or that you include your e-mail in your comment! If you win, I need to contact you! If I contact you and you do not respond within one week, the prize will go to someone else. You’d think this wouldn’t happen, but it has happened several times!

As with all of MS.net’s giveaways, this is open internationally.

If you’re already reading CP: Enjoy!

If you’re not yet: What are you waiting for? Grab a box of tissues and get going!

EDIT: The contest is now closed! The winner has been notified! If she does not respond within seven days, I will move on to the next person! Thank you all for participating!

Goodness, it’s been a while since I’ve had a moment to post something here! Being a grown up is not as fun as people make you think it is. What? They don’t make you think it’s fun? Oh. Right.

Anywho, Jace’s letter to Clary, which was previously only available in copies of the book from Barnes and Noble, is now available on the internet via Cassie Clare’s website. Or you can just click on the image to the right and make it bigger. Apparently the traffic from the letter crashed Cassie’s website yesterday. Good job, everyone

Jace proves to be quite the romantic fellow in this letter, but it’s quite heartbreaking at the same time. If you don’t already know, it’s about Clary receiving the Morgenstern ring from Jace, who is pretty sure he’s going to die and doesn’t want the ring to be lost forever–and since he still thinks she’s his sister, the ring is rightfully hers. Here’s a bit:

I belong to you. You could do anything you wanted with me and I would let you. You could ask anything you wanted of me and I’d break myself trying to make you happy. My heart tells me this is the best and greatest feeling I have ever had. But my heart knows the difference between wanting what you can’t have and wanting what you shouldn’t want. And I shouldn’t want you.

Thoughts?

I just got the Clockwork Prince chapter titles, fresh from Cassie Clare in Australia! If you haven’t seen the cover yet, you should totally click on it for the full view because it is beautiful! I’m gonna let Cassie take it from here, so enjoy! (And tell me what you think in the comments! I’m expecting mass heartbreak with this book.)

So below is a list of the titles of the chapters in Clockwork Prince. This is in the mold of the post I made about the chapter titles of CoFA, back in February 2010. The chapters, the titles of them, the source of the title if it’s from a poem, and even a few lines and spoilers. Since I’m away most of June, this will be the June Clockwork Prince teaser!

Prologue: The Outcast Dead
Will visits the Cross Bones Graveyard in London.

Chapter One: The Council Chamber
Pretty literal — the Council meets to discuss whether Charlotte is fit to run the Institute; we see a bit more of the Lightwoods, not to mention the Waylands and some other familiar families.

Chapter Two: Reparations
“Mr. Bane has been awaiting your arrival, sir,” said the footman, and stepped aside to let Will enter.

Chapter Three: Unjustifiable Death
The term, under the Accords, for a Shadowhunter killing a Downworlder without provocation.

“This was the first time she had been alone with Will in weeks.”

Chapter Four: A Journey
Tessa, Will and Jem leave the Institute and in fact, London entirely.

“Gabriel Lightwood strode across the room to meet them. He really was quite tall, Tessa thought, craning her neck to look up at him. As a tall girl herself, she didn’t often find herself bending her head back to look up at men.”

Chapter Five: Shades of the Past
This one is a pun that will probably only make sense upon actual reading. Althpugh one of the themes of the book is how the past affects the present.

Chapter Six: In Silence Sealed
Again the theme is hidden secrets. The title comes from a Charlotte Bronte poem. “In secret kept, in silence sealed.” Tessa begins to uncover the secrets of her own origins.

Chapter Seven: I had to redact the title of this chapter. It’s a spoiler.

“When Will truly wants something,” said Jem, quietly, “when he feels something — he can break your heart.”

Chapter Eight: The Purposes of Wrath
The title here comes from Thomas de Quncey’s (yes de Quincey!) Confessions of an English Opium-Eater. The paragraph is about addiction, and both the pleasures and the pains of opium, and the chapter is not dissimilar. Also, we meet Ragnor Fell.

Chapter Nine: Fierce Midnight
This chapter ends the night begun in the previous chapter. And has some pretty hot kissing. Titled after a Swinburne poem.

Chapter Ten: The Virtue of Angels
The virtue of angels is that they cannot deteriorate; their flaw is that they cannot improve. Man’s flaw is that he can deteriorate; and his virtue is that he can improve. —The Talmud

Someone rather unexpected hits Gabriel — who, really, was asking for it.

Chapter Eleven: Wild Unrest
This chapter title comes from the poem “City of Dreadful Night” by James Thompson. It’s really about taking on the suffering of someone you love. Will wanders about London at night. “He had reached Fleet Street. Temple Bar was visible through the mist in the distance” — Temple Bar is the structure Jem is standing in front of, on the cover of the book.

Chapter Twelve: The Ball
This is somewhat self-explanatory. There is a masquerade ball. And a balcony. And Magnus.

Chapter Thirteen: The Mortal Sword
We finally see the Mortal Sword put to its actual use: extracting the truth from reluctant Shadowhunters. And it is not pretty.

Chapter Fourteen: The Silent City
“Ah,” said a voice from the doorway, “having your annual ‘everyone thinks Will is a lunatic’ meeting, are you?”

Chapter Fifteen: Thousands More
From a poem by Charlotte Mew: There are thousands more; you do not miss a rose.

“Will has always been the brighter burning star, the one to catch attention — but Jem is a steady flame, unwavering and honest. He could make you happy.”

Chapter Sixteen: Mortal Rage
In which there are automatons and vengeance and explosions. The title comes from Shakespeare: “And brass eternal slave to mortal rage.”

Chapter Seventeen: In Dreams
There is the famous “in dreams begin responsibilities” but this title is actually from a poem by Matthew Arnold. The chapter from which this deleted scene was taken.

Chapter Eighteen: Until I Die
This chapter title has really freaked people out. So I will be nice and say that it is from a poem by Christopher Brennan (no relation to Sarah Rees):

Then seek not, sweet, the “If” and “Why”
I love you now until I die.

Chapter Nineteen: If Treason Doth Prosper
Betrayals and misunderstandings come thick and fast. And Magnus may have a new boyfriend. The title is from a poem attributed to Sir John Harrington:

“Treason doth never prosper: what’s the reason?
Why if it prosper, none dare call it treason.”

Chapter Twenty: The Last Dream
This is the chapter that made me cry! I rarely cry so I felt good about that. The chapter title comes from A Tale of Two Cities.

Chapter Twenty-One: Coals of Fire
I guess if you’re paying a lot of attention you’ll recognize this as part of something Jace quotes in City of Fallen Angels. Endings, beginnings, new characters, and, I promise, not too bad of a cliffhanger.

Alright, everyone. We are all anxious about the imminent casting of a certain Jace Wayland Morgenstern Lightwood. The other characters also need to be cast, but more faces seem to pop up for Jace than any other character. And, of course, this attention is well-deserved because Jace is… well… hot. People like to play Which Hot Actor Should Play Jace Today?, Cassie included.

These are some of the lovely young men who are being pegged by fans as our favorite golden boy:

An attractive group of young men, yes/yes? We all know that Alex Pettyfer (number four, harhar) has been offered the role. Unfortunately for Pettyfer enthusiasts, he hasn’t accepted yet. He recently had a phone conversation with Cassie, but who knows what happened there.

I started thinking: Will we ever have our perfect Jace?

And then I was watching Robin Hood: Men in Tights while pondering this very question and, fans, I found him! Of course, he’s currently 48 years old, so here’s my simple solution: A time machine.

There are a lot of actors who are blatantly too old to play Jace. There are a lot of actors who are too old for a lot of parts. But if we could get a time machine, we could totally cast Cary Elwes as Jace. Take this scene, for example. Cary has mastered the art of badassery. And over here, we have Cary as both the romantic lead and King of Snark. So if anyone has a time machine, we’ll just go back to the 80′s, swipe Mr. Elwes from the set of Another Country (and while we’re there, let’s also swipe a certain Mr. Colin Firth) and tell him we’ve got the perfect role for him.

At least, he’s my Blatantly Too Old pick for Jace. Who is yours? Let’s have a little contest to make it even more fun. There’s a bookmark in it (courtesy of Viviane Hebel) for someone who leaves a comment below with a Too-Old pick for Jace. I’ll choose a winner randomly on April 18.

Remember: They weren’t always too old.

First, I’d like to thank everyone who participated in Mundie Source’s Twitter party last night. We didn’t have enough people to trend #COFA, but we had fun! There were some prizes (including a signed copy of CoFA, which was harder to give away than I thought it’d be!) and some post cards. But there’s more to come, so stay tuned for that!

Second, here’s a quick review for anyone who hasn’t started or finished the book yet: OH. MY. GOD.

And now, if you click below, it will take you to my spoilery review of City of Fallen Angels. I invite everyone who has finished the book to comment with your thoughts. Start a discussion! Let’s let it all out, shall we?

If you haven’t finished, don’t fret! You’ve got time. I’m just crazy. Any spoilers will remain solely in this thread. I won’t be updating the site with them or posting about them on Twitter for at least a month. Though you really should get reading, since I’ll also be posting an interview with Cassie about CoFA sometime in the near future!

I’d mostly like to start out by saying “What. On. Earth. Just. Happened!?”

I’ve been nervous about CoFA the same way I was nervous about Clockwork Angel. I kept thinking “But what if things have changed too much?” in CoFA the same way I wondered “But what if I don’t like the characters as much?” about CA. The cold truth of the matter was that I loved City of Glass so much, it was really hard for me to think that it was going to continue when I’d been so content with the end of Glass.

Yeah, I was wrong. I didn’t realize how much more I wanted from the first cycle of TMI until it was given to me.

And now I want more.

I can’t tell you how crazy I must’ve looked to my cats last night. I downloaded the eBook at exactly midnight. Then I read the first chapter on BlogTV, which was fun, but it drastically slowed down my reading process. It takes longer to read out loud than in my head, the same way it takes longer to type than to think about what words I want to put down. So when I ended on BlogTV, I knew I had a lot of work to do if I wanted to be finished by morning.

First, I was fascinated by the spontaneous combustion that anyone who tried to hurt Simon faced. This was so cool to me. I just wanted people to keep trying to kill him, just so I could read the new descriptions about how they were basically obliterated into salt crystals for trying to poke him. I was also fascinated that little Simon Lewis, who we all can remember as that dorky kid in CoB, was now hot and desirable to two equally hot teenage girls. And he had the nerve to play them! Sarah Rees Brennan must’ve been seething over that one. So of course they had to find out that they were being played, leaving Simon alone.

It really was City of Simon for a while, and I didn’t mind at all. Simon was refreshing and it was fascinating to get a glimpse into his strange vampire powers and also how reluctant he is to accept any of them into his life. Because he can walk in daylight, he continues to try and live the life of a normal teenager. But he knows he’s basically biding his time. As Magnus said, they’ll be the only ones left.

Speaking of Magnus: Who else loved jealous!Alec. Any scene where Alec was with Camille just made me feel tense and nervous, like something big was going to happen. When Alec found her at the end (and set her free, that lovesick dope), I was horrified that something bad was going to happen. I’m still not sure about Camille. She makes me nervous. But I do like the idea that there could be a way for Alec and Magnus to not lose each other. Then again, I’ve got this sinking fear that Alec is going to find a way to become immortal with Camille’s help and Magnus is going to find a way to become mortal and it’s just going to be awful, like the ending of City of Angels. I hope I didn’t just give Cassie terrible, torturous ideas.

Other things I loved: Jace’s humor, Camille’s voice, Simon trying not to stare at Alec and Magnus while they made out, Isabelle admitting that she has commitment issues, and Simon’s band, as always (If you’ve read this far: Leave a crazy name for Simon’s band in your comment and I’ll pick one at random next Tuesday for a fun prize).

Things that made me go o.0: Dead babies. Jonathan. Jace cutting Clary. Clary cutting Jace. I was on the train when I read about the dead babies, and I literally had my hand over my mouth because I was so shocked. The same thing goes for the ritual to bring Sebastian/Jonathan back to life, because I was so terrified that Cassie might actually kill Simon again. (As I said on BlogTV: Rule number one of writing is “Kill your babies” and we all know how much Cassie loves Simon!) And then the very end–when J/S actually comes back and that whole bit with Jace… I just don’t know how to handle that. There’s too long of a gap between now and the next book. I was literally shaking at that point. I don’t even want to know what the guy sitting next to me on the train must’ve been thinking.

And that thing with Jace and Clary and the cutting and the blank eyes and the pain…. I just kept thinking “Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no.” It was worse than when I thought Alec was going to die in CoG, and I didn’t think anything was more torturous than that.

I was wrong. The wait for City of Lost Souls is going to be more torturous. But at least we get Clockwork Prince in the middle to keep us warm and teary while we wait. And I’ll probably update this sporadically and chat below about things I think of after I hit the “publish” button because my mind is just such a mix of jumbled emotions.

What did you think? What were your favorite parts? Where could you feel your heart cracking into a thousand pieces? What did Camille mean when she was “bargaining” with Alec? Who else is going to go out and get the audio book just to hear Ed Westwick’s voice reading Jace’s snark? And what on earth do you make of this Jonathan business?

Now that we are in the home stretch, there will be a lot of fun things happening to lead us to the release of City of Fallen Angels next Tuesday. A lot of us have spent all day thinking, “Oh man! A week from now I will have read COFA! I’ll know everything!” Wait, that was just me? Oh. Okay. Well, you should be thinking it, too!

First up on the Fun Things of the Week train is this interview from Hollywood Crush, in which Holly Black interviews Cassie about the books, the upcoming movie, and actor (read: Jace) gossip! Check it out. If you can’t right now but are swooning at the very mention of Jace’s name, here’s what Cassie had to say:

“Well, the fans love Alex Pettyfer, and at this point I feel like I know him, though we’ve never spoken,” she laughed. “He’d be a great Jace, but I know that he’s got a lot of projects on his plate, so it sounds like he’s choosing what would be the best fit for him. There’s definitely other fan favorites for Jace, too.”

Speaking of interviews, ReelzChannel is accepting questions from fans for Cassie for an interview they’ll do with her in the coming weeks. So head on over here to their comment thread and leave your questions about the movie!

As for the COFA trailer, Cassie had this to say:

This Saturday will kick off a round of video content leading up to the release of City of Fallen Angels on Tuesday. Entertainment Weekly will debut everything on their Shelf Life column:

http://shelf-life.ew.com/

The videos include a trailer for City of Fallen Angels, interviews with Ed Westwick and Molly Quinn who recorded the audiobook, and a even a short film shot from the point of view of a new character in City of Fallen Angels. The first video will debut on Saturday at approximately 9am eastern (NY) time, and then the same time Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Happy watching, and only 7 days till City of Fallen Angels is released!

Stoked? I am!

And finally, a bloopers/behind the scenes video from the COFA trailer shoot, thanks to Vania, the awesome person behind the camera. Check it out below!

7 days! Only 7 more days!

First and foremost, today is the day! Last weekend, I asked you to participate in the Harry Potter Alliance‘s Borders Day to raise money for a Brooklyn charter school’s library. You didn’t disappoint! Those of you who submitted receipts spent more than $300 combined, a percentage of which will go from Borders to the school’s library. Awesome, right?

The winner was generated by a random number generator and will receive a signed, personalized copy of City of Fallen Angels (the edition from B&N that has the letter from Jace to Clary) shortly after Cassandra Clare’s May 3rd signing in NYC.

The winner is…

…

….

….

SAMANTHA! I’ll be e-mailing you right after this post to get your information. Congrats!

And now on to other fun things!

As we all know, CoFA will be released next Tuesday. For a while now, we’ve been talking on Twitter about different things we’d love to see in the trending topics. #Jace, #CoFA, #MaxIronsForJace, to name a few. Well, next Monday is the night we’re going to make #COFA happen!

At 8 PM EST on Apirl 4, 2011, Mundie Source will be hosting a COFA release party on Twitter. I’m still working out whether to use BlogTV or Livestream to lead discussions and chats and trending strategy, so check the Mundie Source twitter and here on MS for information closer to the day of the party. In order to get COFA on the trending topics, we’ll need a lot of people in a lot of places, so we’re going to have to spread this around like wildfire!

COFA Release Twitter Party Information:

Even though the party officially begins at 8 EST, feel free to use the hashtag all day!

Please, please, please tag all tweets between 8 PM and midnight with #COFA.

Twitter trending topics are based on volume of unique tweets and how far the hashtag spreads around the world. For us to really get #COFA trending, we’ll have to have a lot of people tweeting unique tweets with #COFA as the tag. I’ll explain this more next Sunday.

Invite your friends to join in and be part of something awesome!

There will be prizes, including another signed copy of COFA to be sent out after Cassie’s May 3rd signing in NYC, for people participating in the twitter party.

We will also be having a discussion about expectations and predictions for COFA, dream casting for the movie, and other fun topics that fans bring up!

Follow @MundieSource to keep up with further information and make sure you’re online next Monday to join in the festivities and count down to COFA!

There is a deleted scene from the COFA trailer that was dubbed “too hot” and has been given its very own release! It’s called the Dirty Sexy Alley Scene and you can start the treasure hunt right here on Cassie Clare’s blog. All you have to do is go to each of the blogs and collect the letters. They make up a Mortal Instruments-related word that you can use as the password at the end of the hunt.

Enjoy!

EDIT: If you didn’t get to see it through the password or if you just want to watch it again, here it is!
